I turned the page on our family calendar this week from July to August. There in the middle of the completely blank month (which I was about to fill with getting ready to go back to school activities) was one thing.
August's birthday. Written carefully in black crayon by Hendon and decorated with a "Happy Birthday" sticker with pink and green balloons.
August is our cat, and Hendon's dear, dear friend. As Hendon often tells folks, "she has gray fur, and green and yellow eyes." She is also "a very loving and kind cat," according to Hendon. Bryan and I aren't (weren't) really cat people, but we sure do love that cat.

We are currently planning August's 1st birthday party for August 12th. I promise not to send out invitations...
